AYO is a life insurance policy by MTN Uganda available to their subscribers. By dialling *296# and OK, you are ready to get affordable hospital and life cover directly on your MTN cellphone. Everytime you recharge, you automacally boost your cover, thus enjoying the associated benefits.
MTN Uganda launched this life care insurance to its customers where by all of those who wish to join, must first agree to the AYO terms and conditions, register and pay their preferred policy premium. MTN Subscribers of ages between 18 and 65 years are eligible to join and which is can be paid through MTN Mobile Money, a money transfer service which is accessed through any cell phone.
AYO lifecare insurance was launched after MTN Uganda operating under MTN Group, a South African multinational telecommunication company, together with AON and Jubilee insurance teamed up to offer subscribers with a life insurance though cellphones without any paper work involved, and where by the lump sum is paid to the beneficiary upon death of the insured just like it happens with other insurance on life.
MTN AYO Lifecare insurance is offered in up to three (3) policies or coverage options which subscribers can choose to enroll and which include Silver Life, Gold Life and Platinum Life with each of the above policies having its own unique payment values.
AYO lifecare holders can only choose up to one (1) beneficiary per insurance package although there is an option to freely change the beneficiary at any time provided its done during the insurance covering period or validity.
How to join MTN AYO Life care
- Dial *296# OK
- Reply with 1 for registration and OK
- Reply with 1 for Silver life, 2 for Gold life or 3 for Platinum life and OK.
- Enter your DOB (date of birth in format DDMMYY e.g 24121960) and OK.
- Enter holder names (your names) as in First and Last name e.g KWS Adams and OK.
- Enter Beneficiary name as in Surname and other name eg KWS Adams and OK
- Enter beneficiary phone number eg 07712345678 and OK
- Create PIN and OK
Follow registration completion prompt. Once you are done, the next step will be to pay your premium. Please note that the policy covers you even when you are out of Uganda provided you are a resident.
How to stop MTN AYO
- Dial *296# OK
- Reply with 0 for cancelling and OK
You will see a Thank you message on your screen. You would have successfully deactivated the life care policy. In any case you want to reactivate, simply dial the above USSD code *296# and choose reactivate.

I have tried this MTN insurance and its wow. At shs 8,500, I am covered for a full year worth 1,000,000 shillings.
