A Copyright in Uganda is that other form of intellectual property, and which is granted to certain forms of things for example creative work. These can be books authored, songs, videos and very many others.

Steps to register a copyright in Uganda

In order to register a copyright in Uganda, one has to follow the following below procedures, and just like it is the case for Trademarks and service marks, the Uganda registration service bureau takes on this task.

1. You should begin by visiting the URSB offices (registrar of copyrights) and submitting in an application for Copyright registration upon payment of the application fee.

2. Your application will be “advertised in the Official Government Gazette for 60 days”. This is intended to allow other parties get involved either to oppose or the opposite of your Copyright.

3. Once the 60 days are expired, the registrar will register that copyright and issue the applicant a certificate of Registration, upon payment of the required fees if any. The “Copyright protection generally lasts for the life of the creator and 50 years after the creator’s death. This means that it is not only the creators that benefit from their works, but also their heirs.”
