The Licensing office is Uganda Revenue Authority’s department which is responsible for handling and issuing all issues with regard to Motor Vehicle, Motor Cycle, Driving Permits, Engineering Plants, Log Books, Vehicle Alterations, and others that may fall in that same category. Whether you are applying for a new number plate or a duplicate number plate, the one place to start from is URA’s licensing office, and reading this below will help you to know how the entire process works.
Firstly, you will need to visit the Uganda Revenue Authority licensing offices and pick some application forms for a request for issuing on the new number/duplicate number plates depending on any genuine reason you give whether lost numbers plates, destroyed numbers and others of which some might require you to have either made a police report or a news announcement all of which must be attached to the application forms before returning them back.
Secondly, one will need to make sure that the particulars of the vehicle like the motor registration number, the engine and chassis numbers, the current owner names in the log book, the owners signature on file should match with all the detailed to be filled on the form before submitting the forms for verification.
Upon approval, one will be issued an assessment with the amount of money to be paid which will depend on what one is applying for a duplicate number plate for example the assessment charges for an engineering plant may differ from those of a private 4 seater capacity car or vehicle. You will then take the assessment to the bank, pay and then bring a receipt of payment back to the office for verification.
Next you will be issued a go ahead on document which you will take to the Number plates printing companies as recommended or even basing on your choice since they are many to choose from, pay the number printing cost of which you will be given a receipt and told as well the day when your registration number plates will be ready for collection, a period that will be between 6 hours to one full day.
After the given period elapses, you will need to carry your old number plates if available (depending on what included in your application), hand them to any of the licensing staff together with the number printing receipt and you will be given your new printed duplicate registration plate and be requested to sign.
