How To Apply/Get A Personal Identification Number (PIN) In Kenya
A PIN Number which is a short form for Personal Identification Number is a very important number to all Kenyans who wish to do transactions related to Government Taxes in the Republic of Kenya. And just like it is for other countries for example Uganda with the Uganda Revenue Authority, Tanzania with the Tanzania Revenue Authority and others being the government agencies which are responsible to issue Tax Identification Numbers, the same applies in Kenya where the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) does take on the PIN Issuing work in addition to other duties.
The Domestic Tax Department under the Kenya Revenue Authority does process PIN numbers for both individuals, companies, clubs, trusts and any other who may require it. A PIN number is a gateway to all those who would want to do business with the KRA, the different service providers, Sole Proprietorships, Parastatals, Banks, Partnerships, and many others where by when it comes to looking for services like an employment opportunity, opening a bank account, wanting to apply for a Help quick loan and any other, a PIN Number is mandatory for the service seeker since its a a statutory requirement as per the laws of Kenya under the Tax act.
Additionally, a Personal Identification Number is useful when it comes to Trade licensing, Company and business registrations, importation and exportation of goods and services, value added tax applications, underwriting, payment of power deposits, sup[ply of goods and services, stamping of instruments, registration of titles and very many others and as a must, a PIN number is supposed to show on all return documents, statements and others.

1. Visit the Kenya Revenue Authority Website http://www.kra.go.ke and navigate to PIN. Click on Register for New PIN.
2. Tick the appropriate box under KRA already has some Data about you to facilitate PIN Application for example resident, non resident or company
3. Fill in all the required information for example;
- ID Number.
- Applicant Date of birth.
- Applicant district of birth.
- Mother’s Last Name.
- Father’s Last Name.
- Applicant birth year and click on validate.
Follow all prompts and upon successful completion of PIN registration, the system will allocate and send to you a PIN, a Password and a Security Stamp through the email address you provided. Then you will be able to request a new password and do anything else as recommended.
