How To Process A Duplicate Motor Logbook At URA (In Card/Not As Owner)

By KWS Adams Dec 1, 2014

Just like it is for new motor registration log books regardless of whether for a vehicle, m/cycle, car, trailer and any other being issued by the Uganda Revenue Authority, the same applies when it comes to the Duplicate LB’s in any event which may call for it.

Whether you bought a vehicle and the previous owner disappeared with no traces, whether you lost your L/Book or any other, such a situation or situations do call for an issue of a duplicate registration card and which is when the URA intervenes as its one of their work.

One thing you should note is what triggers your need for the duplicate log book and below are situations and their procedures when applying for a duplicate log-book for your motor in Uganda assuming that the cards where abouts is no where (I mean when you don’t have the card with you – lost).

Duplicate Card In Your Names As Owner

1. Visit any nearest Police and report the loss. Make sure you are given a duplicate issue request report.

2. Visit any media (newspapers) like New Vision, Monitor, Redpepper, Bukedde, Weekly Observer or any of your choice and place an Advert for your lost L/Book.

3. Visit URA portal, log into your account if you have one and process a duplicate card issue payment slip. You can alternatively do it without logging in for as long as you fill the right motor details as they are required.

4. Go to the bank you selected and pay the required fees plus bank charges for example Diamond Trust bank fee is Ugshs 2,200, 2,500 for Stambic bank and others.

5. Attach the police report, the news Advert, the payment slip and any other document like your current photo and hand them to URA licensing office in Nakawa or any other designated branch.

You will be told when your card will be ready and or be requested any other requirements if any. You can always seek help from a thirdparty tax agent on 0752009001 if you feel so.

Duplicate Card Not In Your Own Names.

This process will require you to transfer the motor into your own names before a duplicate-card is issued and below is how to go about the process.

1. Visit any nearest Police and report the loss. Make sure you are given a duplicate issue request report.

2. Visit any media (newspapers) like New Vision, Monitor, Redpepper, Bukedde, Weekly Observer or any of your choice and place an 2 Advert for your lost and call for Transfer of L/Book.

3. With your ID photocopy, police report, photocopy of lost card if any and the news Advert, take the papers to get a Court order from the Court (call 0752009001 for help).

4. After picking the Court order forms duly signed and sealed, visit DTB bank main office, present those papers and Pay Stamp Duty.

5. Now pay motor inspection fees at any bank and present the papers to URA together with your vehicle/cycle for inspection.

Once approved, the papers will be filed and you will be given a go a head to pay for transfer and duplicate-log-book and you will be done.
