How To Protect Your Firefox Browser From Being Hijacked By Other Programs
Did you know that there are some kind of software and or programs which tend to appear wierd when installed on ones computer? Or when you install them in your computer for a different purpose, they end up modifying your default browser settings for example changing your homepages and default search engines? True, this is something I went through some few days back when I installed Speedbit. Speedbit did change almost everything on my browser, something which made me start feeling uneasy.
It took me almost 10 hours while trying the different alternatives until I finally saw the best way to restore my browser original settings in addition to protecting my browser for life from being hijacked again, and below is how you can go about this, and possibly to revert Google search as your default search.
1. In the location bar or where you type the web address, type “about:config” without quotes and hit Enter.
2. In the filter at the top, type: “keyword.URL” without quotes again.
3. Double click it, delete what is currently there and replace it with www.google.com/search?q=
You will be done. In order to protect your browser from future program modifications, go here addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/browserprotect/ and install the browser protect add-on.
