MTN Uganda Mobile Money Changes

By KWS Adams Nov 7, 2014

With mobile money services both in Uganda and other countries eg Kenya which adapted their use in money transactions by the different GSM providers like MTN MM, Airtel Money, UTL M-Sente, Safaricom Pesa, a lot has been happening in that world ever since the rolling out of the products.

And to be honest, a large fraction of people who own mobile phones prefer to keep their money there due to the different reasons they give among which include access to funds 24/7, the no identification procedures and long queues as its in banking halls and so many others only to mention.

Like you might have realised, MTN-Uganda did go through a bigger upgrade which occurred has been ongoing since August where a lot of changes and features were added onto the MM service while many were scrapped and replaced. And like any other change, they too did impact the different users different where many see to them on the positive while others on the negative.

In this post and below, I did make some round up of all and decided to share with you some of Changes in the service and what’s new you should know.

The WithDraw Option- Unlike in the past when one would send a withdraw request and a prompt pop up on the subscriber screen, that is no longer the case since now, one gets a message which alerts him or her of the transaction where one is supposed to Access the Mobile money menu and approve the request.

No More Anonymous Transactions – True, earlier there were no name showing of both the sender and receiver but now, all names are shown when a transaction is made ie the sender names on the receiver and the receiver names on the sender.

The Account Balance – This is awesome, it shows you how much money you have with extra .00 figures like banks do. Good looking and interesting.

The Fees – Now thos is where the problem comes. Many have mixed reactions since the costs involved did too change.
