Position Title: Intern – Gender Coordination Unit

Duty Station: IOM Headquarters, Geneva

Department: Office of the Director General

Duration of Assignment: 3 months, renewable up to max 6 months


BACKGROUND INFORMATION

IOM’s Gender Coordination Unit is responsible for the development and implementation of policies and programs on gender issues, and for promoting gender awareness and sensitivity throughout the organization. It acts to mainstream IOM’s gender policy throughout the agency’s activities and programs, and supports the development of initiatives to address the specific gender-related needs of migrants.

SUPERVISION

The Intern will work under the guidance and supervision of the Head of the Gender Coordination Unit (GCU) and in cooperation with the Media and Communications Division as well as other colleagues in the Field Missions and IOM Headquarters.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the supervision of the Head of GCU, the Intern will focus on supporting the timely and professional presentation of communications outputs to the general public and internally within IOM.

The Intern will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  1. Support strategic planning and development of various communications materials including but not limited to newsletters, flyers, multimedia products and communications guidelines

  2. Assist in the development and dissemination of social media outreach on the topic of gender across various online platforms

  3. Assist in preparing media activities, campaign materials and public information for key gender events including conferences, trainings and UN international days

  4. Provide support for media and communications trainings, staff presentations and integration of gender in IOM’s work

  5. Coordinate the editorial content, presentation and distribution of GCU publications online and offline

  6. Support gender feedback platform and data collection to assess gender activities across the agency

  7. Undertake any other tasks as requested by the Head of GCU.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Previous experience in gender and media and communications;
• Background in writing, editing and reporting;
• Strong organizational skills;
• Ability to timely understand the Organization’s structure and portfolios;
• Ability to work effectively and harmoniously in a team of colleagues of varied cultural and professional backgrounds;
• Proven ability to produce quality work accurately and concisely according to set deadlines;
• Practical experience of how to multi-task, prioritize and work independently;
• Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English; working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is highly desirable
