Monoculars are useful for general outdoor viewing. If you are an ardent follower of activities such as bird watching, golfing, mountain trekking, outdoor events, and sports, you know that a monocular is a must-have in your kit. A monocular is a great alternative to the bulky binoculars you have lugged around for years. Monoculars are in fact mini-telescopes, but they are much lighter in weight and smaller when compared with binoculars. They are easily portable. They are also relatively more compact than regular binoculars. Hence, they can easily fit into your travel bag or even handbag for that matter while . You could also fit a monocular into your pocket.

Experts recommend that you buy only the best monocular for your personal use. There are plenty of brands to choose from. However, there are certain things you must take into account before you go about looking for monoculars for sale. Here’s what you should know about them.

Power

The first thing you need to check in a monocular is its magnification or power. The magnification range varies from 6x to 10x. In every monocular, you will find two numbers that tell you about its power. The first number signifies power or magnification and the second number tells you the lens diameter. This means a 6×25 monocular has 6x magnification and the diameter of its objective lens is 25mm.

If you are going to use the monocular for long-distance viewing, you need a monocular with higher magnification, preferably 8x or 10x. But monoculars with higher power can also be hard to stabilize at times, resulting in shaky images.

On the other hand, for short-distance viewing, you should use monoculars that have a lower magnification because they give a wider view. They are relatively easier to stabilize. Before you decide which monocular to buy, you must consider what use you are going to put it to.

A pocket monocular with an 8×25 or 10×25 magnification is considered ideal for hiking, with its decent power, compact size, and the right price.  It can also be a good gift to someone. A 30mm or 36mm monocular is considered to be the best monocular if you want sharper and brighter images. It is important to remember that the higher the magnification, the costlier is monocular.

Size of lens

The size of the lens in a monocular also plays a significant role in the selection of a monocular. A bigger lens obviously allows more light to come in. The image produced is, therefore, brighter. If you regularly use a monocular during early mornings or dusk hours, you need a monocular with a large lens. The lens size usually ranges from 20mm to 42mm.

The only disadvantage in selecting a monocular with a larger lens is that it becomes bulkier and bigger monocular than the general monoculars for sale. Larger monoculars are also called as spotting scopes.

These 2 tips should help you to find a monocular that gives you the perfect balance between size and performance. You are sure to find one that fits your budget too!
